Joey Skaggs: Satire and Art Activism, 1960s to the Present and Beyond

An Oral History Documentary Series

Meet the ultimate media critic. – Rob Walker, Boston Phoenix

Produced and directed by Judy Drosd and Joey Skaggs, Joey Skaggs: Satire and Art Activism, 1960s to the Present and Beyond is an oral history documentary film series that pulls back the curtain on the truth behind Skaggs’ iconic performance art, media satire, and art activism, drawing on decades of rare and revealing archival footage, photographs, and documents.

Through shock, humor, and deception, the series reveals how performance art and satire become radical tools for exposing the media systems that shape public belief, influence culture, and challenge media literacy.

Skaggs’ art is designed to dramatize the inherent dangers in a media that accepts photo ops and buzzwords as meaningful discourse. – Mark Dery, The New York Times

Joey has been campaigning for media literacy and the necessity for a permanently skeptical attitude.
