Runtime: (14:55)

SYNOPSIS
“Joey Skaggs: The Early Years,” the first film in the oral history series, “Joey Skaggs: Satire and Art Activism 1960s to the Present and Beyond,” explores Skaggs’ formative path from rebellious teen to pioneering satirical artist. This episode traces his early influences, including his disillusionment with the art world, experiences in the counterculture of the 1960s, and his first forays into performance-based pranks. Through interviews and archival footage, it sets the foundation for Skaggs’ lifelong mission to challenge authority, expose media gullibility, and use art as a tool for social critique.
With historic archival footage, his early paintings, and “Crucifixion” performance come to life.
